How to Select the Best Circuit Breaker for the Commercial Building

A circuit breaker is a specially designed switch that will protect the wiring of the house or the commercial buildings during short circuit or overload. It will automatically detect if there are any faults in the electricity distribution and will stop the flow of current.
There are different types of fuses available in the market. All of them have unique specification and features that selection of the best one can get really tough. Here are a few things you have to consider to assure that you have selected the right thing.

Voltage

The voltage of the panel switch is calculated with the help of the highest amount of voltage that can be distributed across all the end ports. You must beware of the distribution types and the direct integration of the circuit breaker into the system. To meet the end application, it is important that you select the circuit breaker with the required voltage capacity.

Frequency

The most common types of circuit breaker have almost 600 amps and it can operate the frequency of 50 to 120 Hz. You will have to reduce the power rating of the breaker if you want the frequency to be higher than that. Pay attention towards the requirements of appliances that you will be using in the commercial building to assure that your circuit breaker will match their frequency.

Maximum interrupting capacity

It is regarded as the highest amount of the fault current that the breaker can stop. You have to assure that the interrupting capacity of the circuit breaker is slightly less than what the appliances can tolerate. It will enhance the life of the electrical products because they will not have to suffer the extra voltage and the damages that come with it.
Technologies
With the advancement in technologies, many innovations have been introduced in the circuit breakers. Here are some of the most commonly used and famous technologies available that you can select from:
  • Thermal
  • Thermal magnetic
  • Magnetic
  • Magnetic hydraulic
  • Electronic
Operating conditions
One of the most important things that you have to consider regarding the circuit breaker is the operating conditions listed on the item. There are certain temperatures and voltages that have been mentioned. Remember that the circuit breakers are manufactured under strict environment and the conditions mentioned on them might not match our atmosphere. So you have to be very careful regarding the circuit breaker and fuses that you are selecting for your commercial building or machinery.
Bottom line
The installation of the panel switch is not an easy task. There are certain points in the building where they can be installed and only the experts will know. It is important that you hire the professionals and get their advice during the selection of the fuses because they will give you the best idea. Select the product that will meet your requirements and your budget. The high-tech and latest items will be more durable and competitive as compared to the old items.

Recovering Electrical Parts and Components

Closing an industrial plant can be quiet the process.  It is emotionally tiring, mentally draining and physically exhausting.  Aside from the physical activities and inventories that need to be closed, plant owners are plagued with the burden of what to do with the industrial surplus equipment and surplus electrical components that essentially make up the interior of the plant itself.  Fortunately for owners of these industrial plants with a surplus of used industrial electrical equipment and components there are companies that work to salvage and recondition parts and equipment to like new condition with a process known as refurbishing.

Companies that refurbish electrical components often have a division within their company that has an asset management division which focuses on the complete tear down and recovery of electrical equipment and components.  These companies have professional individuals who are trained on how to recondition the parts that are previously used and operated.

Reconditioning of electrical components and machinery involves taking apart the piece, cleaning it, replacing worn parts, lubricating moving components, re-assembling, and testing to ensure the quality of the refurbished equipment and components to assure they are operating as if they were new.  The parts that have been recovered and resold from a company other than the original manufacturer are called surplus components.

People are often confused and have a difference of opinions on these reconditioned or refurbished electrical components.  However, companies that sell industrial surplus electrical components ensure that they are high quality, fully functioning components that are as safe and reliable as their original electrical counterparts.

A myth that circulates is that there is a great risk tangled with buying refurbished parts however more often than not provided that the recovered surplus part is reassembled by a guaranteed company and is assured that these can outlive their original counterparts. A few in the industrial set up also believe that at times these refurbished electrical parts are higher in quality than the original due to the rigorous testing and analysis that they went through during the electrical recovery process.

Electrical surplus component recovery companies start by first assessing the condition of the electrical component parts.  Afterwards they are trained on how to begin the refurbishing process of tearing down the component, cleaning each part, inspecting it, repairing what needs to be done, test it, and mark it for sale as refurbished.  If certain parts on components need to be replaced due to worn-out issues they are immediately replaced and tested.  Each part is painted and re-assembled.  Paint selection is also important as it provides durability and protection to these electrical components.     Equipment is finally complete and ready for usage after it passes all the thorough testing and critical analysis.  These companies should be able to provide valued electrical recovery products to keep it working efficiently and to also provide safety when operators will start to use them.

It is vital to purchase only refurbished electrical parts from a trusted company that has a considerable reputation and extensive knowledge on how to recondition electrical components.  It is a must that this company has a guaranteed procedure and complete track record of providing only the quality reconditioned products that are expected.  Pricing varies among companies and it is imperative to ask for their refurbishing policy so you may gain enough confidence on which company to purchase refurbished electrical components and equipment from.

The Benefits of Using Refurbished Industrial Electrical Components

There are many types of refurbished industrial electrical components including breaker panels, line switches, bus ducts, bus plugs, fuses, transformers, circuit boards, etc. that are durable and available for purchase.

It will amaze you to know that many individuals and businesses can benefit from buying refurbished industrial electrical components instead of purchasing new equipments. The term “refurbished” is just used to explain that the equipment has been formerly sold and made new again to be resold again. A great deal of contentment has been seen by the users of refurbished electrical products because it helps them to save a considerable amount of money.

Possibly the biggest benefit of buying refurbished industrial electrical equipment is the affordability to business owners and individuals equally. Regardless of the task, whether a home appliance repair or industrial-grade breakdown, it is advisable to search for high quality and affordable refurbished electrical components. Regardless of the electrical problem you are facing the same rules are applicable, seek out affordable, high quality equipment.

Suppliers of industrial components that have been used and refurbished have been a common and reliable source for many years now. Many buyers choose to buy these types of products not just because of quality, but for the affordability and availability of these alternatives.

High Quality: Perhaps a part might look new, but that doesn’t guarantee that you will get a high quality component. Refurbished components undergo several rigorous overhauling processes and they are always tested to reach and sometimes surpass companies UL certification.

Affordability: Most people are searching for inexpensive electrical components to buy that will serve the purpose of purchase and still not put a hole in their pocket. Brand new products may seem perfect but considering the cost and lifespan many buyers will choose to go for refurbished components.
Availability:  This is one of the main reasons why the sale of refurbished electrical components increased greatly in the past few years. Industrial products are always manufactured to serve for a long time. Sometimes it is hard to see suppliers who have new components in stock for older products. It is also very expensive if you choose to always upgrade large equipment to the newest version and sometimes needless as the lifespan of the equipment is far from getting to its peak. Refurbished electrical components are available in clutch as soon as you notice that new parts are out of date.

Alternatives: Whenever any equipment becomes faulty the company loses money. Nobody wants to be in the process of production and unable to repair faulty electrical equipments. Using refurbished components creates variety of alternatives for you at anytime within the refurbished electrical component company. Several refurbished components dealer will have them available or help you in finding the component you really want at an affordable cost with instant availability.

What Happens After an Industrial Plant Closes

In any competitive economy there is no guarantee that a plant that established itself well in the market will not close down. If the owners of these plants are faced with the reality that their operating and fixed costs can now not be met by the present standard and variety of products they produce, they realize it may be time to shut the doors.

What next?  Industrial plants that close their doors often need to dismantle equipment and electrical components to prepare the building itself for sale.  When this occurs plant owners often seek out companies whose business is refurbishing electrical machinery and the industrial electrical components within the plant itself.  This way the plant is dismantled properly and used electrical components can be salvaged and refurbished for sale.

Proper disposal of industrial surplus is important not only for our environment but also for commerce.  Purchasing OEM electrical components costs upward of fifty percent more than refurbished.  This means that business owners searching to stay competitive in the market can choose this avenue to repair and maintain their equipment.  Budgeting is always a large concern for companies so any manner in which money can be saved without cutting corners is valued.  Using refurbished electrical components helps.

When a plant closes a team of industrial asset recovery experts goes in and evaluates the components that are within the building.  They work to dismantle components and equipment that is salvageable and will be able to be refurbished and resold.  The pieces are then are taken back to go through the process of reconditioning.

The refurbishing process is quite complex.  The product is not merely cleaned; it is completely broken down, examined, put back together and tested to ensure that it is in proper working order.  Electrical surplus plant clean outs allows plant owners to properly dispose of electrical assets within the plant which is profitable and environmentally friendly.

For more information on asset recovery and industrial surplus plant clean out talk to a specialist in electrical component refurbishment.  They will walk you through the process to ensure that your plant is thoroughly cleaned out, electrical components are properly “disposed” of and that the plant can be properly put on the market for resale.

Benefits of Using Refurbished Electrical Components in Manufacturing

When it comes to selecting industrial surplus electrical components, the OEM component is not always better. Refurbished electrical components are often fully functional and offer a variety of benefits to your business, such as: reduced costs, improved inspections, improved aging components, and sustainability.

Reduces costs
The immediate benefits of refurbished electrical components in manufacturing are that it is significantly cheaper than new but identical ones. By the simple act of refurbishing a component automatically reduces its selling price; regardless of the reason the manufacturer renewed it. You are likely to save at least 10 percent and possibly up to 50 percent on your component purchases.

Improved inspections
A lower price, of course, does not necessarily mean that the refurbished electrical components are worth buying. Refurbished electrical components that were not properly inspected may contain defects, causing production problems that cost far more money than your savings compared to the purchase.

Refurbished electrical components, however, receive more rigorous testing than new components. Regardless of what is wrong with the product, manufacturers often carefully consider it before they are put on the market, and it means they are more likely to identify and eliminate problems than the new components. In a nut shell, if you get refurbished electrical components, you are likely to end up getting superior components at a lower price.

Improved aging components
The industry is rapidly changing, and aged industrial surplus electrical components that were common are fast evolving by way of refurbishment. So if you still consider buying the new components for manufacturing purpose, you may be losing out of reflected updates that are available on the refurbished equipment.

For example, If your company uses dated components that you still find viable for manufacturing purpose, it can be difficult to find the components needed to repair and maintain the equipment. The restored products tend to be older, allowing you to find what you need for the old computer running at full capacity.

Savvy Sustainability
One more reason to use Refurbished electrical components in manufacturing is that you do not want to wait for your production process to be halted before buying a new component entirely. Also, you do not want to cross the budget line for your manufacturing company by going with completely new components. This is not to say that you cannot make use of your enterprise money to get better components. However this means that your business becomes more sustainable when there is no halt in the production process hence more buyers and patronage. Additionally, another way to see this can be related a concept in production management, which prioritizes routine maintenance to periodic maintenance.

Tips & Tricks in Electrical Component Refurbishment

There can be a lot of money stored up in old equipment or machinery which is why many businesses are now partnering up with waste management companies to help them retain as much of their investment as possible.  Old buildings or buildings destroyed by natural disasters can still contain valuable materials which can be recovered and sold to either offset some of the cost of demolition or go towards the cost of refurbishment.

There are heaps of hidden electrical and industrial resources in every building to be reused or sold.  It's important to take inventory and catalog all salvageable equipment and materials from a demolition or refurbishment project. For instance, lighting fixtures can be reused, and wiring and electrical switches can be sold.

An industrial electric recovery process should consist of three main stages. The first phase involves identifying all usable or saleable assets. The second involves identifying those materials which will be reused for other projects, and the final step is to sell the materials for which your business has no further use.

Buildings that went up a few decades ago had to comply with safety standards that were a lot less stringent than the ones in place today. Experts in electrical surplus recovery will ensure that everything that is salvageable is recovered in the safest manner possible, and make sure it is disposed of according to state regulations.

Electric surplus recovery may involve some destruction, but it also means you will recover some assets, be able to recycle valuable components and sell everything you can no longer use.  It's important to use the best contractors you can find for the job as they will pay for themselves many times over by discovering everything that is recoverable, complete the job safely, and get you the best returns.

Using Bus Ducts and Bus Plugs in Manufacturing

When it comes to the electrical power distribution, a bus duct usually behaves inside a switchboard, dissemination board, and substation. These are normally utilized as a part of the business and industrial setting for inside and outside the establishment. The installation of bus plugs and bus ducts needs to be handled by experts to ensure that the high voltage manufacturing equipment runs on can be handled. A little numbness or wrong installation may bring about instant demise to the safety of the workers running the machinery. Below you will find some basic tips which can truly help guide you through the process of having bus ducts installed within your work environment.
In numerous industries and business offices, bus ducts are introduced in the downstream of the transformer which safeguards them from fault. It is important to remember that where you put the bus plugs and bus ducts must be completely sheltered and secure. You have to protect the equipment from rust and some other unsafe substance.
Bus plugs are basically an electrical attachment similar to an electrical outlet that you would see around your home.  The difference is that in manufacturing these systems need to move about to provide electricity to equipment in different areas of the building at different times.  Each bus plug will be associated with a specific area of bus ducts.  This bolsters power down to whatever it is beneath that should be powered, from lighting frameworks to hardware, whatever the case might be. The colossal advantage of the bus plugs are their ease of adaptability. Since there is no corporal hard cabling to the building, the whole framework can be detached and adjusted to accommodate the arrangement of floor. As new gear comes on the web or plant layouts moved, there's no doubt about how precisely power will be hurry to the new area.
Utilize stainless steel bus ducts and rust proof equipment to increase the safety of bus ducts installed within the establishment.  Utilizing stainless bus duct and rust proof equipment helps to guarantee safety to the workers, the equipment, and the facility on a whole.
Bus ducts should never be settled permanently on the wall.  Bus ducts require attention to this matter.  If left to settle on a wall or floor the apparatus may not function as it should causing inconveniences to the work environment.  It is important that the quality of the products you use to power your machinery matches the quality of the equipment.  Never compromise on quality materials when installing bus ducts and bus plugs.  It is a huge mistake that often occurs in manufacturing facilities; keep this in mind when choosing what to install and what equipment to use within your facility.
At all times professional assistance should be given to the installation and usage of these systems. The fittings are not as stress-free as you may think; nothing is superior to professional help that is highly knowledgeable in this particular field and guarantee the security of work environment.

GST may push up electrical goods’ prices by 10% to 15%

Traders bodies say 28% rate on such items will hit business The selling prices of electrical goods may increase by 10-15% after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) affecting traders and customers, according to traders. Under the GST, electrical goods will be taxed at 28% as it has been classified as a luxury item. “Electrical goods is not a luxury item, but an essential one,” said Hukmichand Shah, the president of 75-year-old Madras Electric Trades Association (META). “Taxing it at 28% will make it difficult for traders to survive and sustain. While the electrical raw materials are taxed at 18%, the finished goods is placed in the highest tax bracket of 28%.” “The increase in operating cost and selling price is likely to have a cascading effect affecting both the small and medium traders and customers. The Centre should consider the tax implication it might have on the end customers,” said Mr.Shah, who also heads the Federation of Electrical, Electronics and Engineering Trade Association of Tamil Nadu. META has about 1,800 members in Tamil Nadu alone accounting for a consolidated turnover of ₹2,000 crore. Surendra Vyas, general secretary, META said they were not opposed to the implementation of GST but the manner in which it was imposed. “There are several anomalies in the GST as far as electrical goods industry is concerned that has to be addressed on priority basis,” he said. “This is not a peculiar problem for those in Tamil Nadu alone. My counterparts in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata have already sounded the Centre about the anomalies in the rate. Memoranda have been sent to the Union Finance Minister, Finance Secretary and State Finance Minister,” Mr. Shah said. All About Circuit Breakers

How does a circuit breaker work?  What exactly shuts the breaker off to prevent the electrical flow from overheating?  Overheating is known as tripping the circuit.  It is crucial that in residential or industrial settings that the connection is tripped.  A circuit breaker does just that.  It shuts off the flow of electricity to the circuit’s thus causing break in the current of electricity.  Instead of ignoring the issue by flipping the switch and resetting the breaker it is crucial that you find the reason the circuit keeps tripping in the first place.
There are three main reasons that a circuit is tripped:
  • An overload on the circuit
  • A short within the circuit
  • A ground fault
No matter if you are a commercial or industrial user it is important to learn what causes a circuit to trip and how to repair it.  This will allow you to save time and money in the long run.
A circuit that is overloaded remains the most common issue of a tripped breaker.  It is pretty simple actually; an overloaded circuit happens when too many things are plugged in at one time.  Even if it is many different outlets, if they are all on the same circuit it will trip.  Consider this, if a circuit has 15 amps but 20 amps of electricity are all plugged in to the same circuit then it will shut off. This helps to prevent overheating. The more current that flows through the circuit over what it is made to carry will prevent the circuit from overheating and will instead trip the breaker.
In order to prevent this it is crucial that the power is redistributed.  Items that require a lot of power should not all be plugged in on one circuit.  Heaters, irons, hair dryers, and more should not be all on one circuit. If all of these appliances must be used on one circuit then it is important to hire a professional to run a new circuit.
Another reason for an overheated circuit can be an overheating appliance. In the summer, overheating central air conditioners are notorious for this – when overheated, they pull in more amps than normal, causing the entire circuit to overload.
A short circuit offers a bit more to be concerned about. A short means that a hot wire is touching another hot wire or neutral wire.  When this occurs an abundance of current is allowed to flow through and creates more heat than the circuit was cut out for.  This allows it to shut off.  The smell of burning or discoloration at the outlet means that you have a short circuit.  Immediately turn off the power at the outlet and have a professional electrician out to replace it.
A ground fault is even more serious than an overloaded circuit as it is a short circuit where a hot wire touches a ground wire or the wall of a metal outlet box.  The identifiers are the same as a short circuit, the smell and the discoloration.  Don’t attempt to fix this yourself.  Circuit breakers are important as they are a safety device that allows a circuit to be broken before a problem occurs.

Quality products are one of the most critical things you are going to be assessed on. If your installations are effective, the client will consider you for the next job. Time and charges will also be used to gauge your electricity facilities. If you get a company with quality products and they ship your electricity equipment on time at a considerable fee, don’t let them go. Your charges might be fair and your installations active, but if you are too expensive and take a long time to finish installations, this might not be a good thing for your company.

7 Safety Measures You Need to Take While Using Industrial Electrical Components

Industrial electrical components require a safe work environment for their proper handling. Even in a safe work environment, you are still required be very cautious and work cautiously at all times. Safety measures are in place to ensure that your actions might not become the reason of a fatal accident.
Your safety and the safety of others around you must never be compromised.  There are a number of important rules that everyone who works with electricity or industrial electrical components need to follow.  In our latest post on electrical components we have compiled a list of safety measures to take while working with industrial electrical components.
  1. Avoid Water at all Times: Water is your worst enemy while working with electricity or industrial electrical components. This is why even wet hands must also not be brought into contact with electricity because water is directly responsible for increasing the conductivity of electric current.
  2. Take off Metallic Rings and Watches before Working with Electricity: It is understandable to take off rings and watches that are made of any metals. Just like water, metal is a great conductor of electric currents and wearing any of such items can prove to be fatal. Moreover, the use of metallic pencils and rulers must also be avoided near electricity or industrial electrical components.
  3. Stay Aware of the Shock Risk: Industrial electrical components that are energized and unguarded might carry warning signs such as shock risk. You must always follow safety measures and be aware of such signs since it could keep you at bay from possible electrical hazards.
  4. Check for Electricity before Repairing an Industrial Electrical Component: Before you try to repair any industrial electrical component, you must always check if it is electrically energized as mentioned in the previous point. You can do this by using an electric tester which would light up if touched to an energized industrial electrical component.
  5. Special Care is Needed While Working with Capacitors: A capacitor is responsible for storing lots of energy. Before it is removed from a circuit it must be properly discharged so that you don’t get a lethal electric shock. An easy way of discharging capacitors is to put the tips of two insulated screwdrivers on both the terminals of the capacitor.
  6. Underground Cabling is Dangerous: You must always wear gloves, shoes and a safety hat while working with underground cabling because the damp soil around it can become a great conductor of electric current which can give you a shock of your life. But safety gloves, shoes, and hat would always keep you safe.
  7. Try to Use One Hand at all Times: A nice little safety measure while working with industrial electrical components is to work with one hand. You can keep the other hand in your pocket or away from all conductive materials. This would ensure that even if electric current enters your body, it would pass through without causing any serious damage to your body.

Choosing to recondition a product

When you are dealing with electrical product reconditioning it is very important that you follow the proper guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Electrical products can be dangerous if you are not careful which is why it’s so important to have a professional handle any type of repair or reconditioning of electrical products.
The new NEMA policy on reconditioned electrical equipment has been released and should not only be read but also understood by everyone associated with electrical product reconditioning. When you have an issue with your electrical products you now have the option to have your problematic product reconditioned instead of having to purchase a new one. This can help save money and time because let’s face it when you order a product it takes time to process and time to ship which is down time for the company in general.
When deciding to have products reconditioned there are specified precautions which must be adhered to for everyone’s safety. First, let’s take a look at the fundamental tenets for reconditioning electrical products as stated in the NEMA policy on reconditioned electrical equipment.
  • Will reconditioning the product extend the life of the product giving more operational time to the equipment or will the reconditioning enhance the product giving it additional features?
  • Is there a reconditioning specialist in the local area that will be able to perform the tasks you are in need of? You don’t want to hand over the product to just anyone and expect them to be able to recondition it.
  • Has the electrical equipment been exposed to any adverse conditions, such as fire, water damage, or any other adverse condition? If they have it might not be safe to have this item reconditioned.
  • Is the reconditioning available based on the OEM (original equipment manufacturer)? The answer to this question can be found in the original paperwork for the equipment. If you have questions you can find a list of items that can be reconditioned based on the NEMA guidelines online, while this list may be subjected to changes it is a pretty comprehensive list that should be able to help you determine what can be reconditioned.
When you are looking to have an electrical product reconditioned don’t cut corners and try to find a cheaper solution because the product you get back might not be up to safety standards which in turn could harm many people, make sure your electrical product is tested, maintained, and operated prior to normal use when returning from the reconditioning work.

The Timely Nature Of Purchasing Refurbished Equipment

When facilities are in need of refurbished equipment or parts it usually comes at a crucial time.  Businesses can’t afford downtime.  When equipment fails it is crucial that it gets serviced as soon as possible.  It is important that the parts to service the equipment are available as well.  This is just one of the reasons that refurbished equipment and refurbished machine components popularity has increased.  Another benefit being the cost savings that comes with using refurbished equipment and replacement components.

When equipment breaks down or components fail it is important to remember that these expenses are usually unplanned.  This means that most companies that work within a budget are struggling to find the funds to replace or repair the equipment.  Without allotted resources within the budget it can be difficult to find a reliable replacement on such short notice.  This is one of the reasons that the refurbished equipment and refurbished electrical component industries are booming.

When looking to find dependable refurbished machinery or parts that will aid in production for years to come there are a few things you need to ask when shopping.  When purchasing a refurbished piece of equipment it is important to know what components have been replaced or rebuilt.  Determining when service has been done will give you a better understanding of the care that has been given to the machine.  Vital components that have been recently replaced are also important to note.  It is important to keep accurate records and service reports on any and all equipment within your facility.

Another question you will want to ask when looking to purchase refurbished equipment or components to repair machines is about the warranty. Refurbished machinery is not any more or less susceptible to breakdowns than a new one would be.  Refurbished equipment and components can save companies upwards of fifty percent over new.  This savings is often adjusted when a warranty is offered.

If you find yourself in need of equipment for your facility consider looking into refurbished.  Refurbished equipment and parts can be purchased from both OEM manufacturers and companies specializing in refurbishing.   Working with a reputable company that is well known within the industry is just another way to safeguard you against purchasing a lemon.  It is important to have a solid working relationship with equipment sellers and servicers.  Building a relationship allows you to receive the customer service attention you need when faced with a crisis.

Key Elements To Look For When Buying Refurbished Equipment and Components

When it comes to buying equipment to use in manufacturing there are many advantages that come from purchasing used or refurbished pieces.  It is cost effective for companies, both big and small, to buy quality used and refurbished industrial assets for their facilities.  It is also beneficial for a company’s budget to repair large, heavy industrial equipment with less expensive refurbished components verse OEM parts.  Before jumping into purchasing refurbished equipment and components it’s important to take into consideration a variety of factors.

It is always important to choose the right equipment for your facility.  Without the proper equipment your facility won’t run effectively.  Key elements you should look at before purchasing new or refurbished industrial equipment includes:

Is the equipment refurbished or used?

If it is used you will want to ask specific questions that have to do with the number of hours the equipment has been used as well the usage history.  Most equipment has a specific lifespan; certain repairs are known to be expected at certain points throughout its lifecycle.
If it is refurbished you will want to determine the process the company used to refurbish the equipment.  It is important to choose a company that offers quality refurbishing.

Refurbishing is not about cosmetics; it is about bringing a piece of equipment back to life.
What is the manufacturer’s reputation?

The manufacturer’s history and reputation play a role when choosing industrial equipment.  It is important that the equipment is coming from a reputable manufacturer.  Always choose quality and reputation over cost.  It is worth paying a bit more to buy a product from a reputable manufacturer.  Buying a used or refurbished component from a quality manufacturer is better than buying a new off brand with a sketchy reputation.

What maintenance records are available?

All equipment runs better and lasts longer with proper maintenance.  Before buying used equipment as to see the available maintenance records.  Think about it like a car, regular tune ups and oil changes allow the car to run more efficiently and longer.  Well maintained industrial and manufacturing equipment will last longer than one that has not.

Is there physical wear and tear?

Be sure to do a visual inspection on used and refurbished equipment before finalizing the purchase of any large scaled equipment for your facility.  Normal wear and tear is to be excepted even if the equipment has been refurbished.  Visible cracks, corrosion, wear and fatigue on components, especially mechanical ones, indicate issues with the machinery.  These should be big red flags to look for a different piece of equipment to purchase that will better meet your facilities need.

Choosing To Use Refurbished Electrical Components

There is a myth circulating around about using reconditioned breakers.  Let’s put it to rest right here and right now.  You are not risking anything to save a few bucks when you are purchasing reconditioned electrical breakers – especially when you find a reputable company to purchase from.

Many manufacturing companies choose to use reconditioned electrical components.  Not only do they cost less over OEM parts, they are also readily available.  For older equipment finding replacement parts may not always be so simple.  Product reconditioning is one way in which manufacturers eliminate unplanned downtime.  Replacing worn or damaged components with newly refurbished components increase safety while decreasing unexpected machine breakdowns.

The process of reconditioning electrical components can vary from company to company.  The basic process of reconditioning electrical components is to bring the component back to its original state.  With quality refurbishment the product is completely disassembled, the components are cleaned, analyzed, reassembled and then a final inspection along with testing is done to ensure the component meets the manufacturers standards.

Depending on the company many times electrical component companies may be willing to lend you a component to use while they refurbish yours.  Refurbishing electrical components can take between three days to three weeks depending on the component and company providing the reconditioning.

Reconditioning isn’t only about cleaning the components but more about upgrading components to include the latest technology available.  Installing upgrades to the system communication center can allow facilities to gather trends and usage information on the system.  Another reason communication center upgrades are important when refurbishing electrical components is the ability to ensure that equipment is running properly and that power usage is similar between machinery.

Refurbishing is economical for numerous reasons.  It isn’t always affordable for manufacturers to completely replace equipment.  Maintaining machinery through refurbishing components allows companies an economical approach at replacing parts and equipment experiencing normal wear and tear through use.

When equipment breaks down because of faulty components it can often cost companies a great deal of money.  Not only do emergency repair services need to be performed, replacement parts need to be found and equipment downtime needs to be accounted for.  Simple updates through refurbishment allow components to be replaced and equipment to be maintained to increase longevity.

Seek out a company that follows stringent electrical component refurbishing guidelines.  Refurbishing requires a lot more than a new coat of paint, cleaning and lubrication.
